Optical Assistant Job – Bury, Greater Manchester

Location: Bury, Greater Manchester
Salary: £25,000 – £26,000 DOE
Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Tuesday to Saturday
Days Off: Sunday and Monday

We are working with a leading independent online eyewear retailer to recruit an experienced Optical Assistant for its head office team near Bury, Greater Manchester.

This is a unique opportunity for an Optical Assistant who enjoys the technical and customer-focused side of optics but would like to move away from a traditional practice environment.

The Role

As an Optical Assistant, you will join the customer service team and use your optical knowledge to support customers with everything from frame and lens selection through to prescriptions, orders and aftercare.

Rather than working on the shop floor, you will support customers from the company’s modern head office via email, live chat and telephone.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing advice on prescription lenses, frames and sunglasses
• Supporting customers with frame and lens selection
• Responding to customer enquiries via email, live chat and telephone
• Assisting with orders, amendments, tracking and aftercare
• Resolving customer queries and concerns efficiently
• Managing and recording customer interactions accurately
• Working closely with the customer service and optical laboratory teams

Working Pattern

This is a permanent position working 37.5 hours per week across five days:

• Sunday: Day off
• Monday: Day off
• Tuesday: 9am – 5pm
• Wednesday: 9am – 5pm
• Thursday: 8.30am – 5pm
• Friday: 8.30am – 5pm
• Saturday: 8.30am – 3.30pm

Saturday working is an essential part of the role. The successful candidate will benefit from having two consecutive days off every Sunday and Monday.

About You

We are looking for somebody with previous experience working as an Optical Assistant who is confident using their optical knowledge in a busy, customer-focused environment.

You will ideally have:

• Previous Optical Assistant experience
• Knowledge of prescription lenses, frames and optical terminology
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Confidence communicating with customers by telephone, email and live chat
• Good attention to detail and organisational skills
• The ability to manage multiple enquiries accurately
• Availability to work the full Tuesday-to-Saturday pattern
